The Epson Pro 4000 printer can reset the chip on its maintenance (waste ink) tank using a series of button presses on the printer itself.

  1. Turn off the printer
  2. Hold down the three leftmost arrow buttons (left, down, up)
  3. Turn on the printer
  4. Release the buttons
  5. A new menu will appear
  6. Press the up/down arrows to get to the “Clear Counters” menu
  7. Press RIGHT
  8. Press the up/down arrows to get the “Maintenance Tank” menu
  9. Clear the counter
  10. Turn off printer
  11. When you restart the printer, the maintenance tank should indicate ‘Empty’

This process only clears the maintenance chip waste ink value, it does not deal with the physical ink so you will still need to wash out and/or replace the existing pads in the maintenance tank.

Unless of course you like ink puddles seeping out of your printer!
